candle in a bottle

Ain't these sweet?



I saw them in an interior shop while I was on holiday and thought, as soon as I get home I'm going to make them! Here they are...
I love using hearts because I'm a heart kind-of-girl. If you're not one, you can use any other shape, or initials, or cut out a word!

What you need:
2 sheets of reading book paper
scissors
an old clean glass bottle
glue
rope or ribbon depending on the size of the neck of the bottle... about 50cm's



Take the page and measure on the bottle what the size of the paper should be. The circumference of the bottle will be wider on the outside than the inside, but measure it to get an idea.



You will have to stick the sheets together, but to start off first stick the one side together and make sure that it is cut straight. Then and cut off the wrinkled edges.



Now measure approximately where you want to cut the hearts or shapes. Lightly fold the paper and cut out your shape.



Before you put the paper in the bottle, glue the one end of the paper, put it in the bottle and spread the paper inside the bottle. Then stick the other end of the paper to the bottle. Almost done.



Now to just finish off the project tie a ribbon or piece of rope around the neck of the bottle, and place a tea-light candle in the bottle.



They are beautiful for the middle of your table or to put a few of them on your windowsill and light them for a pretty picture in the evenings.

    1. This seems dangerous to me too! I think I would mod podge the pages to the outside instead, to keep the paper from being in direct contact with the fire/hot air.

    4. The pre-lit tea lites seem like a best bet or glue the paper outside (It can still look awesome). I fear the point of the heart cut-out (or any part really) will begin to curl as it gets very dried out and possibly ignite. Very nice idea though with the book pages.

    5. I had the exact same concern and am so glad I scrolled down through the comments. I think I'd make these by putting the paper on the outside and mod podging the whole thing. That way if I were giving them as a gift the recipient could use either the battery tea lights or the old fashioned actual burning flame tea lights.

    6. In my opinion, in the rare event that the pages do catch fire, it is contained in the glass and will soon burn out by itself.
      No harm done! Not a fire hazard in my opinion

    7. glad this was adressed, I was worried about the same thing when I saw the live flame. Best option use a flameless candle. A better option as I am a flameless lighting dealer and novelty lighting would be to use an RGB Floralyte, it would cycle through the colours and look beautiful!

  13. I just made these in miniature using my son's babyfood jars. I also mod podged the strip of paper to the outside. Adorbs!

Yes I agree, with my son we go through so many jars and I normally wash them out and use them for small things like bobby pins, paper clips, ect.. but I am going to try making 3 or 4 of these out of them and line them across our kitchen table. I also think I am going to put the paper out the outside as well. Im worried this may be a fire hazard and I know being in a glass jar it could just burn out, but baby food jars are smaller and with my luck something would happen.

  16. Was thinking this would also be great with sheet music pages...maybe a couples wedding song, moms favorite song, etc. Also agree with keeping the paper on the outside. No one likes a craft that can set their house on fire!
